Dr. Kyla Teramoto Hara is a board certified ophthalmologist practicinig in Park Ridge. She was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii and graduated as valedictorian from Iolani School. She completed her undergraduate training at Santa Clara University and graduated Summa Cum Laude in three years with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She also received the Orella Prize, which was awarded to the senior science student who attained the highest grade point average in scientific subjects, and was inducted as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honors Society. Dr. Hara returned to Honolulu and obtained her medical degree from the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii. She completed a transitional year internship at the University of Hawaii and ophthalmology residency at the University of Arizona. During residency, she was a member of the Graduate Medical Education Committee, an Advocacy Ambassador, and served as Chief Resident. She then completed a glaucoma fellowship at Northwestern University/University Eye Specialists, where she trained with renowned glaucoma specialists and taught Northwestern residents.
Dr. Hara specializes in cataract and glaucoma procedures with a special interest in minimally invasive glaucoma surgery. During fellowship, she gained experience in a broad range of surgical techniques used to manage mild to severe glaucoma patients. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Glaucoma Society, and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. In her free time, Dr. Hara enjoys dancing hula, doing yoga, trying new restaurants, and traveling with her husband and dog.
